| X-Height.
|
|
The height in a typeface of the letter x, which is also the height of all median letters (those without ascending or descending strokes). The height of type is measured from the top of the ascender to the foot of the descender. The greater the x-height of the median letters (such as x), the greater the perceived height of the text and its inherent legibility โ and the greater the certainty of deciphering ( the criterion for comprehension). A typeface with a large x-height. A typeface with a small x-height. [Scott โ no, usually with different x-heights come different widths of letters โ the publishers can deal with this issue. Also, many of the different fonts I use may not print on your printers because fonts have to be loaded into the computer - they are not part of the document. So when I do it, it looks fine, but not when you see it in print there. Again, something to deal with the publisher about]
